In this blog we will be sharing with you some traditional Maltese food. Will also mention both food and sweets Here it goes:

Pastizzi

- Pastizzi: This is a traditional savory pastry, normally filled with ricotta or peas. Nowadays, some - what are called - Pastizzi shops also sell them filled with chicken or Nutella. Pastry very much like the Greek phyllo pastry.

- Maltese bread: Having a hard and crunchy crust on the outside and soft and fluffy white bread from the inside. Tastes nothing like a normal loaf of bread.

- Rabbit: Rabbit is most popularly served as fried (sometimes with spaghetti with tomato sauce and peas) or as a stew (Stuffat tal-Fenek). You can try this traditional food in one of the local gems - Razzett l-Antik in Qormi. This restaurant was back in the days a farm house which was transformed into a restaurant yet still kept the stunning features and architecture of a Farm House - for example the court yard.

- Fish: Since you will be visiting an island we guess that it is a must to try the fish. For the best fish around you should go to Marsaxlokk at Cafe du Paris - mostly you should try the octopus there. Two spices of fish we suggest to try is Lampuki and locally caught swardfish.

Location: Xatt is-Sajjieda, Marsaxlokk (Cafe Du Paris)

Other foods:

Gbejniet

- Maltese Sausage

- Bigilla

- Gbejniet

- Maltese Olives

- Capers

- Quail

- Snails

- Horse meat

- Bragioli

- Aljotta

- Minestra

Drinks:

- Kinnie: This is a soft drink produced only in Malta and it is something which you either love or hate.

- Cisk: If you are the type of person who like beer rather than soft drinks, then we also have something for you. Aside from the original, low-carb (Cisk Excel), fruity flavoured (Chill Lemon and Chill Berry), one can also find the non-alcoholic and a few other variations are available.
