Rome - Restaurants & Food

Writer's picture: CoupleTravelBlogCoupleTravelBlog

Tenda This was a restaurant which was located very close to the hotel we were staying in. We were just taking a look at the menu, which seemed to have good prices, when one of the staff came out talking to us and we made our mined that we shall have dinner at this restaurant. We got 2 pizzas and honestly we were not prepared for that size of the pizza. My husbands pizza was massive but my calzone? Well that was massive! And damn delicious., simply baked to perfection. Note: be advise that on top of what you see on the menu you will be charged with a service fee as well which is not indicated anywhere.

Pizza Diavole - €8

Calzone al forno - €9 2 cokes - €6 Service fee - €2

Since we loved this restaurant, for our second dinner we gave it another shot but this time focusing on pasta. We has the following: Spaghetti con pomodoro - €8.50 Spaghetti alle vongole - €10 Sprite and coke -€6

Although the tomato one was quite a generous portion, the vongole wasn’t as much. Otherwise they were both tasty and prepared well, although they didn’t have the same wow factor as the pizzas of the day before. The only thing that left us with a slight sour taste was that previous days service fee of €2 somehow changed into €4. We left the place joking that if the next they we go back, will it be €6 or €8? Di Rienzo Restaurant During along busy day, we decided to grab a coffee from a random coffee shop/restaurant. This particular one was situated very close to the Pantheon, thus as you can imagine it was very expensive. A cappuccino and a latte macchiato cost us €10 euro. We cannot say that it was bad, but it was nothing special either.

Magnum Pleasure Store This is DEFINITELY A MUST VISIT! €5 will yield you a vanilla or chocolate magnum garnished

with a choice of 3 toppings (example coffee power, chili, pistachio, marshmallows, white chocolate chips, strawberry etc), covered by either dark, milk or white chocolate. We knew it was very good but damn it was mouth watering. Coop We were very lucky that around the corner we had a coop supermarket. As for lunch we used to grab a sandwich and a drink from there and it wouldn’t not cost us more that €8 for both of us and they are actually very tasty.

Bottega Vittoria and Bakery's Pizza

Bottega Vittoria is situated very close to the Vatican. It is a nice small restaurant where we decided to have lunch for Hubby's birthday. This is one of the few restaurants which do not charge a service fee, although in reality they do but it is not listed under service fee. The reason why I'm saying this is that the drinks are very expensive thus they get the service fee money from the drinks prices. By drinks I mean a coke and a fanta. But, over all it was a good lunch - we had pizza.

As for Bakery's Pizza, well this place is simple a heaven on earth. We got to know about it while walking towards the Colosseum. The smell of the freshly baked pizza led us to step into this small shop. Here one can get a slice of pizza and will be charged by weight. We got one slice for €5.50. Yes,it is expensive but the taste is divine!

Sicily Food and Drinks

This is basically a coffee shop, which was just round the corner from where we were staying. Whenever we passed our mouth used to drool over the tasty looking Sicilian desserts it offered. So on our last day we decided to give it a try and see if it tastes as good as it looks like, and indeed it did! We had this kind of thing which I can only describe as between a ice cream and a cake, costing €5 each.

First things first, getting to know us. We are from two different countries, Hungary and Malta (a small island in the Mediterranean sea located right under Sicily).
