Transport

As public transport in Hungary one can find 4 metro lines and a huge number of trams and buses which are very efficient and frequent. There are various types of tickets one can purchase in order to use the public transport.

  • Single tickets - 350Ft (€1.07)

  • Daily tickets - 24hours 1,650Ft (€ 5.04)

  • 1 week

  • A month

Tickets can be purchased from ticket machines and in larger intersections they can also be bought from a kiosk.

When traveling with public transport from the moment you land, you can take a bus to go to Kőbánya-Kispest metro station where you can take the blue metro line for the city center, obviously depending on where your accommodation is.

It is worth to note that all metro lines join at Deák Square.

If you would need to make use of taxis, not to get ripped off we suggest to opt for big taxi companies like:

  • Budapest taxi

  • 6x6 taxi

  • Fötaxi

At the airport you can get a taxi from a kiosk.

Budapest had two main railway stations which are both accessible by metro:

  • Eastern railway station

  • Western railway station

If on the other hand you are thinking about renting a car, be advised that the police have mobile speed cameras that can actually be ex a civil car so you wont realize and fines are very hefty of careful with the speed limit.

Are you in an environmentalist mood? Then your weapon of choice could be Blinkee. Service which enables you to rent a nearby electric scooters to discover the city in a relatively cheap and nonpolluting way (even parking is easier). You can find the Blinkee app in the play store/ app stop. It will require you to upload a photo of your driving license for verification so better get that done before travelling, just in case.

Important!

  • Do not cross the road on red light as you will be fined

  • It is not advised to go on the outer districts safety wise especially district 13 and the havana blocks.
