Wedding Anniversary Trip to Thessaloniki 18th April - 21th April 2024
Airline - Transport - Accommodation
This trip was purely for some relaxation and an escape from the daily stressful reality. We must admit, that everything was simply amazing. One thing that we really do need to highlight is, if you are planning to stay in Thessaloniki, prepare yourself for some maniac roads - but we will get to that later.

If you are familiar with us, you know that we always opt for cheap way of traveling. This time we went with Ryan-air. We did not travel with a hand luggage to go to the destination, we just had a backpack with us. for the two of us with seats included we paid €112. We then decided to book a hand luggage for the way back as we planned to bring some Greek food with us, which cost €21. In order not to pay for a hand luggage on the way there as well, we just packed another bag in our backpack to be able to use it on the way back. Another good option is that one can buy a hand luggage from Greece, prices are not expensive there so should be worth it (most likely will cost less than if you had to take a hand luggage with you).

Our Plan for this holiday was to explore the nearby areas of Thessaloniki. We have checked a lot online including Youtube to try and understand how their public transport works, but unfortunately we couldn't find much. Thus, we decided to rent a car. This is quite a tough task as we would not want to:
Pay a high deposit
Give credit card details
Most companies try to screw you over
My husband managed to find the best car rental in Thessaloniki. They also had the best reviews and barely any negative reviews. The company is called "4 Rental Thessaloniki". The total amount we paid for the car was €60 (for 3 days), which is very good. When we received the confirmation email, we were informed that, when we get out of the airport we will meet someone from the company in Parking Lot 4, near the ticket kiosk with the 4 Rental Thessaloniki uniform. This information was accurate and the representative was also there 30 minutes before we were supposed to meet. As for the car we were provided with an upgrade for no extra cost, and had the amazing Citroen C3 Aircross. To give back the car before we left was also smooth sailing.
As previously mentioned, if you are planning to stay in Thessaloniki for the whole holiday, do not rent a car.
The city is overloaded with cars.
It can take you ages to arrive to the location as there is traffic lights almost every 50 meters and when you arrive you spend 1 hour trying to find parking.
Parking is paid everywhere and not noted anywhere, we only discovered this by searching online. Fines are harsh and number plates can be taken away
Accommodation
Since we decided to rent a car, we had to find an accommodation which has a parking spot/ garage, as we have seen that the area is jam packed with cars (through google maps). We found the below accommodation through Airbnb. It was splendid. The flat was cosy with a parking spot. The owner was also very nice and helpful - she lived across the road from the flat.
Price: €139.99 for 3 nights for 2 people
Location: 5, Ikoniu Street, Thessaloniki
