As one can imagine, this is going to be quite a different blog than usual. First of all we traveled during the pandemic, must say that when we left, Malta was getting worse and worse with the cases, while traveling to Hungary was much safer as where we were staying (Eger) there were only 2 cases. Secondly, we planned this holiday longer than usual and thirdly, we went as a family trip, thus not just us two.
Airline
Ryanair was once again our choice. We had a lot of changes for this flight, as you might already know we were supposed to go to Poland and then Hungary, but our flights to Poland and to Hungary from Poland got cancelled. What we did was we changed the dates of one of the flights and applied for a refund for the other one, which we are still waiting for but patience is the key as we did get our April refund in July and we had applied for it in March.
Obviously, going abroad nowadays is not like how it used to be. A mask is mandatory at all times at the airport and on the plane. Also, Ryanair has been providing papers which need
to be filled when visiting particular countries. These can be found online on their website and while doing the check in. These form are also handed out when entering the airport. As for going to Hungary we were not requested to fill any forms, but when coming back to Malta we had to fill in 2 papers with personal information and handed it to the air-hostess at the end of our flight.
Here Are the documents which need to be filled when coming to Malta:

The most ironic thing that I have seen was that when we got back to Malta, we got down from the plane and were guided to the bus, where we were like sardines. As soon as we entered the airport a person who works there started shouting to keep social distancing. Isn’t that Ironic when previously we all were on the plane together and all squished on the bus?
Since we were traveling with the family, in order to go on the plane we needed special assistance as my sister is a wheelchair user. I must say that the people who helped in Malta were fantastic, both going and coming, while in Hungary not so much, to the point that they were instructing my parents to have a seat in Hungarian when they have no idea of the language. On the way back I must say that the Hungarian crew was much better.
Transport
This year we decicded to rent a car as we knew we were gonna go round quite a bit, therefore we needed something comfortable. We came across Gerzson Autókölcsönző, Kerepes on facebook and managed to rent the van for 138,000 HUF and a €400 deposit from them. The guy who was talking to us was very nice and friendly, unfortunately I did not get his name. He came to pick us up from the airport, which was already a plus for us. In addition, we could communicate in English with no problems – although in our case my husband spoke to him in Hungarian. We highly recommend them as the service was impeccable.
